Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple and Dr Quincy in Quincy M.E. (Medical Examiner) are probably Jack Klugman's most famous television roles. Jack Klugman stars as Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple with his co-star Tony Randall playing roommate Felix Unger. The very popular series The Odd Couple ran originally from 1970 until 1974, and the equally popular Quincy, M.E. from 1976 until 1983. Jack Klugman was awarded two Emmy's for his perfomances in The Odd Couple.

Jack Klugman was born in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 22 1922, he began his acting career after service in the United States Army in World War II. Early in his acting career, whilst striving to become established, and in order to save money, Klugman once shared a room in New York City with another budding actor, Charles Bronson.

As well as his starring roles in The Odd Couple and Quincy, Klugman's early television appearances include: The U.S. Steel Hour, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Defenders and four episodes of The Twilight Zone. In 1954 Jack Klugman appeared with Humphrey Bogart and Henry Fonda in The Petrified Forest, which was broadcast live. Jack's film career includes roles in: Grubstake (1952), Time Table (1956), 12 Angry Men (1957), Cry Terror (1958), The Yellow Canary (1963), I Could Go On Singing (1963), Act One (1963), Hail, Mafia (1965), The Detective (1968) and The Split (1968).

Sadly, in the early 1990s, Jack Klugman underwent surgery for throat cancer, and had to have one of his vocal chords removed. Although the surgery has had a significant effect on his voice, he continues to act on stage and television. In the 1990s, one of Jack's roles was as a detective in the television series Diagnosis Murder, his character had terminal cancer who had to solve a case before he died. From 1953 until 1974 Jack Klugman was married to the CBS Match Game show regular panelist Brett Somers, they have three children - Adam, David and daughter Leslie. Jack Klugman's current partner is Peggy Crosby, with whom he has lived since 1988. Peggy is the ex-wife of Phililp Crosby, Bing Crosby's son.

Jack Klugman published a book in 2005 entitled Tony and Me: A Story of Friendship. The book is about the long friendship between Jack and his Odd Couple co-star Tony Randall. In the book, Jack talks about their friendship, their professional relationship, and how supportive Tony had been after his operation.

Jack Klugman has in recent years returned to prime-time television - Guest-Starring in the NBC show, Crossing Jordan, about Jordan Cavanaugh M.E. In the show he plays Dr.Gelber - a respected Medical Examiner! He has also presented a live one man show: An Evening with Jack Klugman. Jack has also recently made the feature film comedy: When Do We Eat, released April 2006. In the movie Jack Klugman stars as Grandpa Artur. See Jack in the trailer
